#31DC2014 - Day 8: Metallic Nails aka Metallic Marble

Good morning lovelies! So, we are going into the 8th day of the #31DC2014 and I must admit, I’m having more fun than I thought I would. It is quite tiring at times but the pay-off is really worth it. Also, seeing some of the other ladies work is really inspiring. You freaking go girls!

Day 8: Metallic Nails
I wasn’t too excited about this prompt. Not only was I very low on inspiration but I don’t think I own any true metallic nail polish. So I went with what was metallic to me and played around a bit. While I was playing around with my polishes though, I saw that some of my metallics did what a lot of metallics do...streaki-ness galore! And hence, I realized I could use this to my advantage. So this is how my metallic marble was born.

I layed down a very thick coat of Nubar Erratic Purple on a plastic baggie. I then went in with a small dotting tool and just swirled the polish around in a random motion until I was happy with the “pattern” that it created and left it for about 2 hours to dry properly. When it was dry, I added another thick coat of clear polish over the marble just to give it more of a foundation for when I remove it. When everything had dried properly, I lifted the polish off the baggie with a tweezer and cut it into different sections similar to the size of my nails. Then I layed a very thin layer of clear nail polish over each of my nails and let it sit for about 20 seconds to get tacky and placed my little marble decals over the tacky base. I then just flattened everything down nicely to make sure there were no air bubbles underneath, cleaned up around my nails and layed down another thin coat of fast drying topcoat, making sure I wrap my tips.

This mani came out pretty cool in my opinion! It kind of looks like liquid molten metal, doesn’t it?...Which  then just made me wish that I rather used a silver metallic polish because then it would look like liquid Adamantium! AAAAAAAGH! An unintentional X-men mani! Why didn’t you Thea?? Whyyyyyyyyyy??

Lots of mad love...

#31DC2014 - Day 7: Black & White Nails aka Adventure Time, Come on bring your...Gunter?

Hi lovelies! Heck, it is a stunning STUNNING day outside. Spring has definitely sprung with a little extra heat but that’s okay! Winter has apparently left the building! *crowd applauds*

Day 7: Black & White Nails

I’ll be honest, this prompt didn’t bring tons of inspiration to me because everything I wanted to do felt like I was copying someone else. One thing I definitely knew though was that I had to do an Adventure Time mani somewhere along the line of this challenge and what more perfect opportunity to bring in one of my favourite characters? I give you the I-love-breaking-bottles quirky cute Gunter the penguin.

SOURCE

I started by laying down 2 coats of Sinful Colors Snow Me White on all my nails except for my pinky. On my pinky I layed down a coat of WOW Nail Polish #393. I then stamped some shattered glass over my pinky and index finger using Bundle Monster plate BM-208, Sinful Colors Snow Me White and WOW Nail Polish #393. On my ring finger I wrote in the sound that Gunter makes with a thin nail art brush (and a very steady hand!). Finally, on my middle finger I made Gunters body and face using a thin nail art brush and  WOW Nail Polish #393. For the beak I used Tip Top Nail Chic Sun Kissed.

Aaaaah, I am so chuffed with how this came out! I just want to paint little Gunter’s on everything! Sure, my stamping isn’t perfect but personally I think everything came very nicely together. And I finally did an Adventure Time mani! Happy warm fuzzy FEEEELS!

Wenk wenk...

#31DC2014 - Day 6: Violet Nails aka Cat-urday??

Hi lovelies! I don’t think I have ever posted on a Saturday! And what is this thing outside at freaking 9am on a Saturday morning?? The sun?? I always thought that also slept in on weekends...who knew!

Day 6: Violet Nails

One of the many loves in my life, besides nail polish, is animation and cartoons. From full on Japanese anime to weird awesome shows like Adventure Time, I love it! Hence, I am crazy about Disney movies! Especially the Classic 2D Disney movies. Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast, The Rescuers! *sings* R-E-S-C-U-E, Rescue Aid Society! Hmmmm...happy chills! But I digress! One of my favourite Disney movies is Alice in Wonderland. There is a long and really unnecessary reason behind this that I’m not going to jabber on about right now but it was part of my inspiration for today’s mani. To be precise though, Cheshire Cat was my inspiration! Don’t you just love his menacing smile?

SOURCE

I started with 2 coats of OPI Do You Lilac It? on all my nails except for my middle finger nail. When this was dry, I layed down some striping tape horizontally over all those nails and layed down a coat of Sinful Colors Amethyst , making sure I pull off the tape immediately after each fingers coat. With my middle finger I started with a base color of Tip Top Nail Chic Fairy Dust and made Cheshire Cat’s facial features using Tip Top Nail Chic Sun Kissed, Sinful Colors Snow Me White, OPI A Oui Bit Of Red and WOW Nail Polish #393.

Hey, it’s not perfect but it isn’t bad right? The stripes look fine to me but I wish I could’ve done a little better with Cheshire Cat’s face. He looks more like a pig than a cat to me but you got to remember, he has had some tough years behind him! Even Disney characters can age and I just captured it mkaay?? That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Lots of mad love...

#31DC2014 - Day 5: Blue Nails aka It's Friday! Friday!

Hey lovelies! Are you guys super excited BECAUSE IT’S ALMOST WEEKEND?? Yeaaaaaaaaaaas! Well Friday or no Friday, today is Day 5 of the #31DC2014 which means blue. So let’s get right into it, shall we?

Day 5: Blue Nails

If I say I wasn’t totally excited about Day 5’s prompt, I would be lying! Not only is it my absolute favourite shade of nail polish but I had a sick idea in mind...well, pretty sick if you’re an Adventure Time fan...and then some unforseen circumstances and absolute exhaustion from a pretty damn rough week at work happened so I prompted for a tape mani instead. Still a WIN though ‘cause BLUE!

I started by laying down a base of Sally Hansen Pacific Blue on my index finger, China Glaze Secret Peri-Wink-Le on my middle finger, China Glaze Sky High-Top on my ring finger and OPI Swimsuit...Nailed It! on my pinky. When this was dry, I taped off individual sections of my nails and filled them in with the various blues named above, overlapping them slightly over each other each time.

As simple as this mani is, I’m going to sound HELLA vain and say I love how it came out! And man guys, if you don’t have OPI Swimsuit...Nailed It!, GO GET IT! I don’t care if you Ebay stalk, beg or whatever. She is so worth it! Dammit, I should’ve bought a double....

Lots of mad love...

#31DC2014 - Day 4: Green Nails aka Fails can be wins also, can't they?

Hi lovelies! This week is going by way to slowly for my liking but only 1 more day then it’s Friday and that usually passes in a flash so SUPER WIN! But for now, let’s just enjoy Day 4 of the #31DC2014 with some green nails.

Day 4: Green Nails

With this prompt I went in with really no idea what I wanted to do and that actually made me sad! I adore green nail polish so I thought inspiration would come easily...but it didn’t. Then it hit me that I’ve wanted to try these nimbus nails by The Nailasaurus for a very long time so why not now? Please note: EPIC FAIL! But I’m posting it none the less!

I started out by laying down 2 coats of Sinful Colors Snow Me White on all my nails. When this was dry, I added thinned out random overlapping dots of China Glaze I’m With The Lifegaurd, China Glaze Starboard, Sinful Colors Pistache and Catrice Hugo Moss as shown in this Nailasaurus TUTORIAL.

Like I said, EPIC FAIL! The dots weren’t thinned out nearly enough and this was my second attempt! The overall mani though? I actually kind of like it! Much like yesterday, China Glaze I’m With The Lifegaurd’s awesome neon epicness made my camera have a total hernia but in the end, I got a few nice pictures and I’m really happy with this mani! That’s all that matters right?

Lots of mad love...
