#31DC2014 - Day 15: Delicate Print aka HA! Thea and Delicate! Funny!

Hi lovelies! Freakity frak frak! We are on day 15 of the challenge you guys! And I am still here! WHAT?? I feel I deserve a scouts badge for that! PERSEVERANCE! HELL YEAH!

Day 15: Delicate Print

Hmmm...me and this prompt. It scared me a tiny bit! Do I look like someone who can do or does delicate?? Never! I’M SO HARDCO...oooh look! Bunnies! Okay, so maybe I’m not insanely hardcore but I’m not a big “delicate” fan. So I did what every sensible non delicate flower would do and reached for my stamping kit.

I started by laying down 2 coats of Essence Dare It Nude. When this was dry I layed down some striping tape in a chevron pattern over all my nails and filled it in with Essence Prom-Berry, making sure I pulled the tape off immediately. Finally, I just blocked off the small chevron section of my nail with sticky tape and stamped a flower pattern with Essence Prom-Berry and Bundle Monster Plate BM-211.

This mani is insanely simple but I am liking it quite a bit! Sometimes a bit of simplicity is all that is really needed. In hindsight though, I should’ve made the chevron’s a little bit thinner but it still looks kinda cool.

Lots of mad love...

#31DC2014 - Day 5: Blue Nails aka It's Friday! Friday!

Hey lovelies! Are you guys super excited BECAUSE IT’S ALMOST WEEKEND?? Yeaaaaaaaaaaas! Well Friday or no Friday, today is Day 5 of the #31DC2014 which means blue. So let’s get right into it, shall we?

Day 5: Blue Nails

If I say I wasn’t totally excited about Day 5’s prompt, I would be lying! Not only is it my absolute favourite shade of nail polish but I had a sick idea in mind...well, pretty sick if you’re an Adventure Time fan...and then some unforseen circumstances and absolute exhaustion from a pretty damn rough week at work happened so I prompted for a tape mani instead. Still a WIN though ‘cause BLUE!

I started by laying down a base of Sally Hansen Pacific Blue on my index finger, China Glaze Secret Peri-Wink-Le on my middle finger, China Glaze Sky High-Top on my ring finger and OPI Swimsuit...Nailed It! on my pinky. When this was dry, I taped off individual sections of my nails and filled them in with the various blues named above, overlapping them slightly over each other each time.

As simple as this mani is, I’m going to sound HELLA vain and say I love how it came out! And man guys, if you don’t have OPI Swimsuit...Nailed It!, GO GET IT! I don’t care if you Ebay stalk, beg or whatever. She is so worth it! Dammit, I should’ve bought a double....

Lots of mad love...

#31DC2014: Red Nails aka Harley Quinn Nails

Good morning lovely loves! It’s the 1st of September today and here in sunny South Africa that means Spring Day! Sure, the weather might not be depicting that exactly at the moment because we are having a cold front but that should be over by Wednesday...the leaves are greener though and I smell jasmine when I step outside in the mornings so yes! SPRING HAS SPRUNG! So get out your Allergex and antihistamines people! The season of new life and snotty noses is here! Happy Spring Day!

As some of you might know, this time of the year a bunch of gals in the nail art community takes part in the 31 Day Challenge. For the past 2 years I have watched these ladies in awe and admiration as it can be really well, challenging, but they always nail it! So this year, with some encouragement from Ordinary Misfit, my dumb masochistic butt decided to also take part! So for the next 31 days I will be trying to do a post every day *horror scream* so please wish me luck! For more info and an awesome Q&A, simply pop in at Chalkboard Nails. Also, to see all the different mani's that are posted during this challenge, just use #31DC2014 on all social media platforms. Now, let’s get to it, shall we?

Day 1: Red Nails
For the first prompt of the challenge I decided to do nails that I’ve wanted to do for quite some time now. As most of you will know, I am a little bit of a geek and one of my many geeky loves is anything DC or Marvel related. So when I can get an opportunity to do Harley Quinn from Batman nails, I’m going to jump at it!

SOURCE

I started out by laying down 2 coats of Nubar Competition Red on each nail. When this was completely dry, I sectioned off areas on each nail with sellotape or sticky tape, and filled in the open spaces with WOW Nail Polish #393. To finish it off I made small diamond shapes on my pinky and index finger nails using my thin nail art brush and Nubar Competition Red or WOW Nail Polish #393 (depending on the color underneath).

I’ll be honest, at first I wasn’t 100% happy with how this came out but now I like it more and more! I would’ve liked to put a little face, or something more detailed on my accent finger but this came out quite nicely! And man, Nubar Competition Red is just...seeeeexy! Need a double of her in my life!

Lots of mad love...

Twinkle Twinkle Spongey Stars...

Hi lovelies! Heck, it’s been quite a while since I’ve posted but it’s been for good reason. Had some really awesome changes in my life and I thought I’d share my happiness with you! I didn’t really post anything about it on the blog but last year October I lost my job due to retrenchment. At the time it was a really big shock to my system but I thought I would get over it quick and find a job in no time! I didn’t though. I hated feeling so helpless and out of control, and I was slowly busy losing myself! I was constantly fighting with my family and my fiancé about the most tiny silly things, I was low on inspiration and just the idea of writing a blog post exhausted me! That was the worst to me. I was pushing away the things I love the most! Something had to change fast!...And it did! Last Tuesday I went for an interview on very short notice and was quite nervous!  To be honest, I was terrified.  But I’ve been working there since last Wednesday and it’s a great environment with new challenges , new experiences and I feel amazing. I feel like “me” again and man, did I miss me!

But let’s be honest, you’re not here for my soppy life experiences! Let’s get on with the nail art shall we?

I got a little star punch after I saw some amazing mani’s done by people like Chalkboard Nails and Manicurator and decided I have to play with it immediately! It’s not a hugely complicated mani but I still loved the results!

I started out by laying down 2 coats of Catrice Hip Queens Wear Blue Jeans. I punched in some stars into sticky tape and layed it down on random places over the dry base.  Then I took torn pieces of a make-up sponge and sponged over the open star spaces with Sinful Colors Snow Me White.

Like I said, this is such a simple and easy mani but I love how it came out! I liked it so much that I actually wore it for more than 2days and that does not happen often in my world! Just needed some red in between somewhere and it would’ve put me in a full on “‘America” mood.

If you would like me to swatch any of the colors you saw in today’s post, please let me know via email or drop me a comment below. More than willing to oblige!

Textured Nail Art

Hi there lovelies! Gosh, It's been over a week since I last posted! Not intentionally though. The PC screen died on me last week but all is sorted now and I can continue on my quest to take over the world! Muhuhahahaha So yeah, basically I post nail art again!

Today's mani is a little creation I came up with after I've seen a few textured nail art manis floating around the blogiverse and I love them! A little honorable mention I have to give is to Painted Fingertips! This lady knows exactly how to take texture nail art to a whole new level! If you ever need any inspiration in this field, definitely go take a look at her blog! Here is my little take on this type of art...

I started out by laying down 2 coats of OPI Atomic Orange. When this was dry, I placed some Sellotape over the base color to form the geometric shapes on my nails and layed down a thick coat of Essence Here's My Number over the open areas, peeling the tape off immediately before I moved on to the next nail.

At first I wasn't insanely happy with how this came out because when I swatched Essence Here's My Number, it dried looking quite a bit more gray than it did over the orange. But it did grow on me and I quite like the pattern that I made with the tape. ...Also, my better half to be said it reminded him of Deadpool and well, that just absolutely made me love it! I will definitely be doing some more textured nail art in the future!

If you would like me to swatch any of the colors you saw in today’s post, please let me know via email or drop me a comment below. More than willing to oblige!

#MTV Challenge: 7. Black, White and Glitter

Hi lovelies! Hope everybody is well! Heck, this week flew by didn't it? I wanted to do so many things but got to absolutely none of them! But that's mainly because I am a huge procrastinator and I've been feeling a bit down in the dumps also, but will tell you all about that some other time.

Now nails!

7. Black, White and Glitter

This theme in the challenge kind of bummed me out because I have been wanting a black and white glitter for the longest time now but luckily the theme wasn't “Black and White glitter”, so I made it work for me.

Nail Polishes used:

  • WOW Nail Polish #393
  • Sinful Colors Snow Me White
  • China Glaze Ruby Pumps

Tools/Other Used:

  • Sticky Tape
  • Zig Zag Crafting Scissors

I layed down 2 coats of China Glaze Ruby Pumps as my base. When this was dry, I put down the strip of sticky tape that I cut with the craft scissors,  horizontally on the nail. I then put on a coat of Sinful Colors Snow Me White on the open section and pulled the sticky tape off immediately. After the white tips were properly dry (emphasis on PROPERLY DRY), I repeated the process with the sticky tape but with WOW Nail Polish #393.

I don't know why but this kind of reminds me of a circus. I think it's the colors. And my wobbly looking zig zags! On the other hand, China Glaze Ruby Pumps is a stunner. I really need to play with my reds a bit more. It's a really underrated color which I absolutely love every time I actually wear it!

Now go check out the other gorgeous creations by the other ladies! Like always, it's pretty killer:

Subtle Tape Mani

Hi there lovelies!

I'm in one of those horrendous moods today where I want to tear the wings off of butterflies and scream at myself. Granted I'm a bit of a drama queen but you get those right? Of course you do, you're primarily female...if not, SHOUT OUT TO MA BOYZ! So if I don’t seem like my chipper ol' self just remember that ultimate cheesy break up line. It's not you, it's me! But I'm not breaking up with you so just tolerate me for today! I'm like a bad rash. I stick around like a Facebook stalker!

The mani I'm posting today is a simple tape mani. As boring as they might seem, I really like tape manis. They are very versatile! You can do all types of designs and patterns, combine stunning colors and with the right combination can be very “work safe”.

Nail Polishes used:
  • China Glaze First Mate
  • China Glaze Recycle
  • Nubar Dolcetto

Tools Used:
  • Adhesive Tape

I started by laying down 2 coats of China Glaze Recycle and waited for it to dry properly. When this was dry, I layed down a small strip of tape over my nail in a random direction and painted on a coat of Nubar Dolcetto over the open section, removing the tape immediately after the coat was painted on. When I was finished with all the fingers, I waited till they were properly dry again and added another piece of tape over the nail in an random direction, basically just making sure they go in a kind off opposite direction than the previous layer. Then I painted on a coat of China Glaze First Mate over the open section, pulling the tape off immediately again.

Like I said, a very simple mani but I really liked the results! It looks kind of...classy! And even though these colors together reminded me of high school uniforms, I loved them together!

Now, where's some candy? I think a sugar rush is just the type of kick I need to get me out of this slumpy iffiness I'm feeling right now!

If you would like me to swatch any of the colours you saw in today’s post, please let me know via email or drop me a comment below. More than willing to oblige!
